Maximus is a masculine Latin word meaning “the greatest” which was clearly the intention of the manufacturer, but they couldn’t be more inaccurate. It’s a water based lubricant which has very high ratings most places, and at around $2 per ounce I’m sure most people think it’s a steal. When I first got this lubricant a couple years ago from EdenFantasys I was also under the guise that it’s awesome. It stays slick throughout the entire session, is flavorless, and the pump is makes re-lubrication a cinch for those unexpected dry spells. However, my vagina hates this toxic goo with a passion.

At the time I really wasn’t concerned with chemicals or how they effected the body, except when it came to toy materials. I had also already heard all sorts of bad news about parabens, but I stupidly shrugged off that entire notion and continued to violate myself with this nasty product. In the beginning I never experienced any adverse reactions, but gradually I began to experience some slight after-sex burning, and finally became immediately sensitive upon application. Youch.

In this past year I’ve become somewhat hyper-aware of ingredients and one look at the label has me smacking this stuff away with a ten foot pole.

Highly Purified Water, Propylene Glycol Cellulose Polymer, Di Sodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Methyl Paraben, Butyl Paraben, Ethyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben.

Besides the obvious and well known correlation between cancer and parabens, the phenoxyethanol is another criminal here. Phenoxyethanol is known for skin irritation (bingo) and organ toxicity. Combined with Disodium EDTA which enhances skin absorption, this lube is totally no bueno.

Please, for the love of vaginas everywhere, stay the hell away from this stuff. If you need a lube, water based or otherwise, be sure to check out Sliquid, which is significantly more natural, paraben free, and vegan for those animal lovers out there.

It’s made of PU coated plastic (aka velvet cote), and no the “PU” doesn’t mean it has a weird smell or taste. Velvet Cote is not a superb option for sharing unless you don’t mind using a condom or are fluid bonded. It can only be cleaned with soap and water but at least it’s phthalates free. The texture is smooth but is comparable to that of silicone since it still has a bit of a grip to it, which I really like in a vibrator. It can be used with both silicone and water based lubes.

The bullet can be used internally as well as externally because it does have a retrieval cord, but it should not be used anally since it could easily be lost and lead to an awkward hospital visit. At 2 1/2″ diameter (3 3/4″ circumference) it’s quite filling for a bullet, but its too short at 3″ to give a completely full feeling. Internal vibrations are relatively uninteresting for me so I prefer to use this as a clit vibe. For those interested in torturing or being tortured, it can be situated inside underwear if you prefer clit stimulation, but note that its size makes it a dead giveaway if you’re trying to be discreet. It’s also marketed as waterproof and does have an o-ring where the bullet unscrews, but unfortunately I didn’t get to put that aspect to the test.

The cordless remote is very small and can be slipped in a pocket without anyone the wiser. It has one red LED light at the top that lights up when a button is pressed. There are four buttons total: plus and minus buttons to control the speed of vibrations, a function button, and a power button. It also has an antenna to increase the range which is about 26′ or 8m and a loop at the bottom for those wanting to attach it to a key chain.

Overall the vibrations are pretty average in strength, so the odds are your partner won’t come to orgasm with only this between their legs. It does have seven functions and seven speeds so it’s really great for teasing. The seven different functions are:

• Roller Coaster: Steady vibration increases then decreases.
• High shuddering vibrations to low shuddering vibrations.
• Medium Pulsations: Similar to a heartbeat.
• High Pulsations: Fast heartbeat.
• Elongated pulses with a surprise: A few long pulses that fade away and sudden fast pulses.
• Pulse Variation: Two fast pulses and one long.
• Standard Vibration

Based on the packaging I’m assuming this product is marketed to be used in public, but the vibrations aren’t quiet enough for me to feel comfortable. They shouldn’t be a giveaway in loud places like a club, however.

I really want to like this bullet because of the increased usefulness due to it being cordless, but there’s one big downside to this toy: the batteries are a serious pain. The bullet takes four watch batteries (which are included) but they’re very difficult to insert correctly because they like to flip around. Furthermore, the base doesn’t want to twist on properly unless you’ve gotten the batteries in just right. Prepare to spend ten minutes or more just messing with the batteries; what a headache. Thankfully the control pack only takes one 1-12V, because although it’s a hard battery to find it goes in without any trouble.

Unlike corded bullets you have so many more options with a cordless bullet. You can tie your partner up and slip it in their underwear and tease them until they beg for you, use it in public on a hot date to spice things up and it into an entire foreplay session, or simply use it during either a partnered or a solo session.

I do want to recommend this bullet for bullet lovers or those who want to experiment with something different, but the price tag of $60.99 MSRP, the super troublesome batteries, and the fact mine stopped working in less than a handful of uses… Well I don’t think I need to say more. It’s really a great concept, especially for those into exhibitionism or bondage, but it needs to be taken back to the drawing board.

The final and most tasty piece of the Heads UP Kit is Sliquid’s Cherry Vanilla Swirl lubricant. It’s one of six flavors in their Swirl line, and the others are Pina Colada, Green Apple, Blue Raspberry, Pink Lemonade, and Strawberry Pomegranate. I’ll be honest, Cherry Vanilla is not my first pick but it’s probably the most “average” flavor and well suited for a kit.

Note: Don’t actually put this on your ice cream.

Just like I gushed over Sliquid products in my Sliquid Sea review, I’m just as impressed by their Swirl line. It comes in the same style of push top bottle that doesn’t leak which is a must. The 4.2 oz bottle will last for months and is worth shelling out a few extra bucks instead of buying cheap drugstore lube. Why? Not only does Sliquid Swirl taste delicious, it’s glycerin and paraben free, hypoallergenic, and vegan.

Ingredients: Purified water, plant cellulose (from cotton), cyamopsis (guar conditioners), cherry & vanilla flavoring, aspartame, potassium sorbate, citric acid.

The ingredient list is short and doesn’t have any surprises, except that it contains aspartame, which many people avoid for several reasons. I won’t get too deeply into it, but aspartame is a sugar substitute and we all know that sugar and vaginae don’t mix (hello yeast infection). However, since aspartame has a different composition than sugar—and I’m no scientist—I don’t know exactly how it will react with the vagina. I can say that so far I’ve had no issue at all.

There’s not a whole lot else to say about the Cherry Vanilla Swirl except that it’s awesome. This is only my second flavored lube and it totally changed my opinion. The flavor doesn’t bite your tongue, which annoyed me with System JO. A flavored lube shouldn’t be overpowering; it should add to your partner’s natural flavor like an ice cream topping. Most people probably don’t even need lube for oral because saliva (or female fluids) is pretty much an inevitable factor, but I really like Cherry Vanilla for fellatio. Sometimes your mouth is too dry to comfortably lubricate your partner, or maybe you just want to skip that step. Whatever the case, Cherry Vanilla will not only assist in the lubrication process, it’ll taste sweet too.

I have a dreaded gag reflex. I really want to be able to deep throat comfortably because I know my husband loves it. A tasty cock definitely helps relax my throat and jaw, whether it’s a silly subconscious trick or not. What’s more, Cherry Vanilla is safe to use with any toy because it’s water based. The real test is how I well I was able to use the tools in this kit to improve my fellatio abilities and turn them against my husband.

I feel that I’ve been able to let loose while giving fellatio. I haven’t been a stick in the mud by using the same old, common techniques. Lately I’ve witnessed my husband come harder, and if his bodily reactions aren’t a give away, he verbally praises my new found techniques as well. The LingO tongue ring is the second item in the Heads UP Kit from GoodVibes. It’s a disposable, one speed vibrator meant to be worn on the tongue (no tongue piercing required!), while giving oral to your partner. It definitely sounds strange and to be honest, I was intimidated.

The LingO.

To use as instructed, simply stretch the ring and slip it over your tongue with the pointed end facing outward. I thought for sure that it would feel irritating and bulky, but it’s not bad. It does have a tendency to slip off and positioning it at the base of the tongue as directed detracts from the pleasure your partner will experience. Both my husband and I agreed that it works best when wrapped around a finger or two.

The packaging claims that it’s made out of SEBS food grade silicone, and I find that hard to believe but admit that I’ve never come across that material before. According to my Google-fu, food grade silicone is body safe and used to make molds in baking. Anyway, the elasticity and squishiness remind me of a jelly product, except there’s only a light smell. I considered doing a flame test but read on other sites that it’s actually made of TPR silicone, which won’t pass a flame test and fire in my apartment is not a great idea. Since it’s somewhat of a mystery material, I don’t recommend using this near the anus. You probably won’t need it but it can be used with water based lubricants. It’s likely that it will be a one time toy for most, but use soap and water to clean.

It’s best worn in your fingers.

The “Pleasure Bumps” on the top of the vibrator are so squishy that they won’t be felt unless you use firm pressure and massage it into your partner’s sensitive areas. The texture on the ring and bottom of the vibrator are ridged to prevent it from sliding off, and they also can’t really be felt so I’m not entirely sure if they even work.

The bullet is pretty nice considering this is a disposable toy. It has an on and off switch so you don’t have to drain its 40+ hour battery in one go. The vibrations aren’t strong but not undetectable either, and I was impressed with the fact that it’s decently quiet. After all, you don’t want to hear your partner’s mouth going off like a motorboat right before they go down on you.

It’s very stretchy!

Female Receiving: This definitely added a level of excitement to receiving oral. It feels fantastic on the clit when your partner applies it with firm pressure while fingering your pussy. It also feels great against the entrance to the vagina after your partner has teased you quite a bit.

Male Receiving: It’s more difficult to perform oral with this toy on a male organ. There’s not adequate room in the mouth when worn properly and it inhibits a serious blow job. He did prefer to have it used on him as it was meant to and found it a big tease, in a good way. It does feel amazing on the head and right at the base of the shaft against the testicles but the vibrations in general are very “hot” for those new to them so you really can’t go wrong. He preferred light pressure over the firmer pressure required to feel the bumps.

The obnoxious, non-discreet packaging.

The LingO is definitely not the main feature in this kit, but if your partner is new to using vibrators it makes a fabulous introductory toy. My husband isn’t particularly interested in toys but he really enjoyed the LingO far more than I did. Even though it is a strange type of toy, the light and quiet vibrations aren’t going to scare a first timer away. I was skeptical at first but it opened a new door for experimentation. If the LingO still isn’t interesting to you, don’t let it be a deciding factor in regards to the Heads UP Kit since it’s such a small piece.

Of course the star attraction is the semi-educational DVD by Pleasure-Ed. It’s about 47 minutes long and has three extras. I have to point out that I had problems playing it on my laptop. The menu would not work so I had to choose the chapter manually. I am probably missing a codec, so be sure to update your codecs if you want to play it on a computer.

Doctor Carol Queen, the host of the DVD, is a sexologist and the co-founder of the Center for Sex and Culture. She’s written a few educational books as well as erotica, and has been a featured contributor in many other educational works. Clearly, she definitely has credibility. Besides her, this DVD features [what I assume to be] two real couples and three actors, as well as interviews with Kitty Stryker and Lady Monster.

Queen starts us off by explaining the anatomy of the penis, using proper anatomical terms and comparing it to other phalluses of females, transgender, and intersex individuals. Throughout her explanation the scene fades in and out from her and couples engaging in fellatio, and we’re given the first taste of what this DVD is offering. I honestly was expecting something totally different, and wasn’t enjoying the DVD immediate. I was expecting a straight forward how-to type of video, but instead Queen, Kitty Stryker, and Lady Monster speak in intervals between all the couples. None of the scenes contain explanations, but they all contain aspects of what the speakers talk about.

The first couple is older but I’d easily say that they’re the most connected in terms of experience and ability. They reinforce Queen’s lecture about not needing to ejaculate in order to orgasm, and it’s very clear by their uninhibited reactions that this isn’t some fake porno. This is definitely the most “average” or “normal” type of couple on the DVD in terms of the style of fellatio and I think they did a great job in starting off with this couple for that reason, as well as to point out the realism of all these scenes. This couple isn’t attractive, at least not by Hollywood standards. But damn that woman is wonderful at what she does and their chemistry makes them my favorite.

The next couple is in more of a dominant and submissive relationship and I didn’t particularly like their style. The man is obviously the top and he often tells his partner what to do, and I’m unsure if he’s forcing her movement or if he’s just holding her hair (I’m pretty sure it’s the former). It’s a strong contrast from the first couple’s oral scene, and while I totally enjoy rough sex now and again, I just couldn’t get into it because it didn’t seem like the woman was enjoying herself until the end.

I really only liked the first couple, but I can’t deny that there’s plenty to learn from even without step by step instruction. For example, the woman in the first couple gently holds her husband’s testicles and base of his shaft with sort of a cupping gesture, and uses this to jack off his shaft into her mouth. It’s difficult to explain, but I’d never seen that before. I gave it a shot on my husband and lo and behold, it works fabulously!

The extras contain the entire scene of the fourth couple which mostly flitted in and out during the DVD, more info from Queen, and one last note from Stryker. I loved Queen’s bonus segment because she has so much to share about anatomy and how the penis works. I think a lot of the information is common knowledge or found elsewhere, but this part is so well done it’d be great to share with others who are uniformed.

Would I recommend this DVD? Yes! Even though I really thought I was getting something different, it didn’t take long for the artistic style to grow on me. I don’t think that this is the best for absolute newcomers or for those who’ve never sucked cock, because Queen doesn’t hand feed you techniques. This is one that definitely has to be viewed with an observant, open mind. If you’re looking for a straight forward how-to, this isn’t the right one for you.

My husband often points out when I’m doing this because in his opinion I shouldn’t ever need to be so hesitant or very selective over my words, especially with him. Maybe it’s apparent to other reviewers with how often I say something on the lines of “it didn’t work for me but ___ person might like it”. People who are familiar with sex toys probably understand what I’m really saying (ie, “This toy sucked“). But people who are already into sex toys don’t need a reviewer telling them that maybe if they like the things that I didn’t, the toy would work out for them. No, a sex toy lover would already come to these conclusions themselves; there’s no need for me to be holding anyone’s hand.

Who this really hurts are people that are new to sex toys. If newcomers are reading my blog about a product that I didn’t like, they may get the wrong idea. Maybe they won’t understand how their personal preferences impact their taste in toys since they may have little to no experience themselves, but I definitely don’t need to be glossing over a negative review by recommending a toy that I didn’t like. Really, newcomers should be encouraged to try quality toys that work, and if a toy didn’t work for me then why the heck should I endorse it?

I feel like an idiot now. I need to feel more confident in myself and my voice and not be a pushover in my toy reviews. No company that sponsors me is pressuring me to give positive reviews so I shouldn’t ever feel the need to soften the blow.

I sincerely apologize to those who’ve read my reviews and felt confused about my honest feelings toward the product. I will attempt to go back and make corrections where I feel is necessary and applicable. Lastly, I’d like to remind all my readers that you never need to hesitate to ask me a question about one of my reviews. I’d love to hear your feedback in any shape or form.

Sliquid has a whole line of hypoallergenic, glycerin free, and paraben free lubricants. Many of these are organic and even safe for vegans, Sea included. With such a small price tag too at a range of $11.99 to $14.99 per 4.2 fluid ounces, it only makes sense to pick such a healthy product over other lubricants.

Sliquid Sea is especially formulated to mimic your body’s natural lubricant. It is supported by seaweed extracts from three different seaweeds—which are often used in cooking and as food additives—that serve as natural lubricants. The ingredient list is short and sweet:

Purified water, Plant Cellulose (from cotton), Cyamopsis (Guar Conditioners), Carrageegan, Nori & Wakame (Seaweed Extracts), Potassium Sorbate.

Especially noticeable is that Sea is free of any coloring ingredients (who needs that anyway?).

Sliquid Sea definitely does exactly what it’s advertised to do. It’s clear and completely scentless and tasteless and doesn’t become tacky with friction or leave any sort of residue. As listed above, it contains Cyamopsis which actually conditions the skin (and I tested this on my arm!); this further prevents any sort of delayed skin irritation.

As a water based lube, it’s safe to use with all your toys and is safe with oral sex. A single dollop should be all you need for an entire session, but anal play or shower play may require more because water based lubricants aren’t as resistant to drying out or being washed away as silicone.

A push button top isn’t my most preferred type of dispenser, but overall I’m really pleased with the container that Sea comes in. It’s not hard to dispense just what you need, though the bottle is a pretty dense plastic so I predict it will be more difficult to get out as the bottle is near empty. I’m really happy though that it doesn’t leak, so you don’t have to worry about laying it on its side in your bed table or throwing it in your bag for sex on the go.

This is my first Sliquid product but it won’t be my last. I’m completely sold and Sliquid has instantly become a favorite in the bedroom. I won’t be spending my money any longer on other lubricants which can potentially be dangerous for my health in the long run when I have such an accessible, affordable, healthy option.
